Transferring University / Course
Policy
Transferring courses/University is when a student decides they no longer wish to continue on with their current course or want to change universities. If there is any issues the Advice Service would first recommend looking at all other options first.
A transfer is not a guarantee, particularly after the first two weeks of the academic year or before the beginning of the next one. You may have to defer entry onto the course/university you are transferring to and suspend your studies for the rest of the current academic year.
Procedure
To transfer within the University of Portsmouth, you need permission from the department and course you wish to transfer to. You should speak with the Course Leader to discuss a transfer. The new department makes the final decisions on what credits can be transferred and if you are able to transfer over. There may be conditions to the move, such as having essays or reading to catch up on; ask about this so you are fully aware of the potential workload you will be faced with. Once your decision has been agreed, you must print and submit the appropriate Transfer Form (TFv3) into your school office.
If your decision is move to an alternative University altogether you need to discuss this with your Tutor. You would need to speak to the new University and department you want to move to about the possibility of transferring. You will usually be required to go through the formal UCAS application procedure although some Universities may do direct entry.
Students should talk to the University Student Finance Centre and Student Finance England because any changes can have implication regarding fees. Students may also need to discuss accommodation with the relevant people (i.e. Halls of Residence staff or Landlords) in cases of transferring University.
The Advice Service can help by supporting the understanding of the process involved. We would recommend speaking with Careers and Employability to explore course options.
