Have Your Say

Policy Lapse

The Union has a democratic structure called Have Your Say where students can submit ideas to make changes or improve their student experience. After 2 years we do a health check on the ideas to see if they are still relevant and are something that students want the Union to focus on or adhere to.

Policy Lapse (Reviewing previous ideas)

What is this?

The Union has a democratic structure called Have Your Say where students can submit ideas to make changes or improve their student experience. After 2 years we do a health check on the ideas to see if they are still relevant and are something that students want the Union to focus on or adhere to.

Have Your Say was only introduced in 2015. Prior to this ideas were called motions which acted as a similar way of making change.

If students choose to keep a policy it is reviewed again in another 2 years and so on.

How does it work?

There are two parts to the policy lapse process to participate in. The first part is to look through the list of policies due to lapse and identify any that you think should be kept.

If you feel that the policies should be kept and that the Union should continue to deliver these or abide by the commitments then you should email studentfocus@upsu.net outlining the policy or policies you would like to keep. The deadline to do this is by 5pm on Wednesday 30th October 2019.

Once students have identified the policies that they would like UPSU to keep they will be placed on the UPSU website from mid October for students to vote on.

If students vote to keep the policy Union Actioning Body (UAB) will discuss the implementation  and allocate officers to work on them for the remainder of the academic year.
