Student Breaches

Many of you will have seen the media reports and social media videos of an illegal street party in Portsmouth last night. We wanted to update you about this and also highlight support services available to students concerned by this.

We know that many of you will have seen the media reports and social media videos of an illegal street party in Portsmouth last night. We were upset to hear this was instigated by a student who will now face police action and has been suspended from the University pending a disciplinary procedure.

We were upset by this, not just because it breaks the law and puts people at risk, but because we know that the majority of our students have been abiding by the regulations and remaining as positive as they can in this global pandemic.

We know you’re as frustrated as we are that students and young people are being portrayed negatively in the media and it angers us that your peers who did this are such a small minority, but they will take the focus away from the rest of you who are taking this seriously and helping one another and the community through these difficult days to reach some form of normality as soon as possible.

We also want to highlight the support available to you over the weekend if this has concerned you in any way: The ResLife team is available out of hours for students in both halls and private accommodation to provide pastoral support which is accessible by phoning security on +44(0)23 9284 3418. You can also contact the University Infoline on the weekends on +44 (0)23 9284 5588. The Wellbeing teams Whatsup app also provides information on 24/7 support services.

Please continue to keep yourself safe, wash your hands, wear a mask and stay socially distanced. Up to date government guidance can be found at: gov.uk/coronavirus and you can check out our recent video with Public Health on how we can keep each other safe on our Facebook page.

To find activities that adhere to guidelines then don't forget to check upsu.net/events where we’ve got a whole programme of activity that you can do!
