Lasting Change

What is the Lasting Change Project?

How does the project work?

  1. University of Portsmouth and Students' Union staff sign up to become a 'Changemaker'.
  2. They complete the self-reflection survey where they're asked to reflect on what they know so far and how they think they can make a difference.
  3. They then take part in a workshop run by the PGM Ambassadors and another colleague from the University of Portsmouth.
  4. They go on from this to plane actions for their department or service, thinking about how they will champion the project. They communicate planned actions back to the PGM Ambassadors.
  5. They also take part in a recorded conversation with the PGM Ambassadors where they're asked to hold themselves accountable, sharing great ideas and commitment to Lasting Change.
  6. There is them a period of review and further discussion where staff reflect on their progress towards their commitments and any further actions they might be taking.
  7. The last step is to reflect on progress and feedback to the project!

FAQs

Who are are the PGM AMbassadors?

The PGM Ambassadors are a group of paid student staff that work with the Students' Union and our Elected Officers to ensure the experiences and voices of PGM students at the University of Portsmouth are listened to. You can find out more about who they are and what they do here

Who can become a Changemaker?

Anyone can register to become a Changemaker. We're looking for passionate staff at the University who are keen to dedicate time to improving the student experience for PGM students. For example, if staff are in an influential or management role within their department or service, they're in a great position to lead this work in their area. That being said, this opportuity to open to all staff at any level.

Why should people take part?

The impact of racism on society and our students' learning, life and futures is significant. We know that racism shows up throughout society and therefore, at the University. This programme offers staff the opportunity to have time, support, community of learning and a non-judgemental space to help them make some impact and contribute to lasting change for race equality and the difference that staff want for our PGM student communities.

What happens is staff capacity changes and they can no longer take part?

Our timeline is designed with the University staff's busy schedules in mind. Depending on how far through the process you are, we can be flexible without timeline to ensure that it works for you. Changemakers may also be able to defer their involvement until the next cohort.
