Main information regarding this Election Position

This is the election for the position of Welfare Officer in the 2024 student elections. Please see the job description here.

All candidates (including No Suitable Candidate) will be displayed below after the nominations close on the 2nd of February.

This Election is conducted using the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system, meaning that voters will be able to rank candidates in order of preference. You can learn more about the STV system here: Single Transferable Voting.

Voting in this Election will open at 9AM on Monday 19th February 2024 and close at 1PM on Thursday 22nd February 2024.

Results will be announced from 6PM on Thursday 22nd February 2024.

Hi my name is dionne! Im a final year student studying drama&performance. I LOVE PORTSMOUTH UNIVERSITY and feel that I could be the missing link to helping better students welfare! Here’s why you should choose me!
I’ve absolutely loved my time of being a student and feel that it’s my turn to give back and to look after current&future UoP students. I’m deeply passionate about connecting with others&want to help create/strengthen communities that will help better people’s welfare.
>I’m currently the president of snow-sports , &previous to this role, I was vice president&social sec! From this experience I carry strong leadership&team player skills, connected with tons of students and I believe that I have what it takes to be the right person for this role.
> I’ve had all the up to date&relevant welfare training and undertaken courses enabling me to be your no.1 choice for welfare in this campaign.
>I am also a member of rowing, hockey& surf, a past member or lacrosse and swimming and have participated in lots of team UoP activities!

We live in an age where it is hard to deal with the pressures of life. As young people in these times, there is the pressure of having to juggle a number of things: from school work and academics to work, to the general obligations we have to society as a whole, we are constantly having to balance things out, which can overwhelm us and act to the detriment of our personal and societal wellbeing.

I am one person who understands these pressures all too well. It is my desire that we can create an environment and a system that encourages young people to live in a less pressured environment where they can deal better with their responsibilities.

This is my major aim in my desire to become welfare officer. I want to work with the school and the student and act as an intermediary, in promoting a more positive environment that prioritises the wellbeing of everyone.

Hello, my name is Ines, and I am re-running for the Welfare Officer position. If I will be re-elected, I will maintain a focus on the Night Time Economy, prioritising your safety both in the city and on campus. I aim to provide easier access to spiking test kits, anti-spiking bottles, and drink covers, always ensuring your safety. My goal is to make these items more available at the Union Purple Wednesday Pitstop, particularly crucial amidst the current Cost of Living and financial crisis. I believe in equal rights and opportunities for all, especially when it comes to safety.

I am committed to continuing the work on the Sexual Misconduct and Harassment Policy in collaboration with UoP, emphasising consent and bystander training for both students and staff. Additionally, I aim to initiate more projects focusing on neurodiversity, diversity, and equality to support you throughout your studies.

I would like to continue my work on the Personal Tutor System, with Learning Experience Officer. I aim to separate them into academic and wellbeing tutors to better support your university experience. What is more, I want to start a peer-to-peer system, where students can support other students, especially at the beginning of university journey.

To enhance inclusivity, belonging, and stronger student community, I plan to diversify Purple Wednesdays, offering activities beyond the traditional club scene, catering to those who prefer calmer and/or sober spaces. What is more I would like to create an official PW calendar, so every student and society can enjoy the night together.

Hi! My name’s Connor and I’m a Health Psychology Masters Student. I’m passionate about student safety and mental health, being a Portsmouth Psychology Graduate, who completed a placement year as a Wellbeing Practitioner. I’m the Vice President & welfare secretary of Street Skating Society and the President of SSDP, having also previously been a psychology student mentor for 2 years, and lead mentor for 1. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TREAT YOURSELF - Work with the Library to have a Puppy Day around EVERY assessment period - Work with the Chaplaincy to get FREE FOOD & TOILETRIES PARCELS to students no questions asked - FREE sanitary products in every building - Offer every university staff member mental health first aid training ---------------
