The Policy
Transferring courses/University is when a student decides they no longer wish to continue their current course or want to change University. If there are any issues, the Advice Service would first recommend considering all the options available first.
A transfer is not a guarantee, particularly after the first two weeks of the academic year or before the beginning of the next one. You may have to defer entry onto the course/university you are transferring to and suspend your studies for the rest of the current academic year.

To transfer within the University of Portsmouth, you need permission from the department and course you wish to transfer to. You should first speak to your Course Leader to discuss a transfer. The new department will make the final decision on what credits are able to be transferred and if you can transfer over.
There may be conditions to the move, such as having essays or readings to catch up on. It is important you ask about this so you are aware of your potential workload in advance.
Once your decision has been agreed, you must print and submit the appropriate Transfer Form (TFv3) to your school office. |

If your decision is to move to an alternative University, you will need to discuss this with your Personal Tutor. You would need to speak to the new University and department that you wish to move to about the possibility of transferring. You will usually be required to go through the formal UCAS application procedure although some Universities may offer direct entry.
Students should talk to the University Student Finance Centre and Student Finance England as changes may have implications on tuition fees. Students may also need to discuss accommodation with the relevant people (e.g. Halls of Residence staff or Landlords) in the cases of transferring Universities.
The Advice Service can help by supporting the understand of the process involved. We would also recommend booking an appointment with Careers and Employability to further explore course options. |
