At UPSU's Advice Service, we offer confidential, impartial and non-judgemental support on a range of academic and university issues that may affect your experience. Our team of trained advisers are on hand all year round to offer help where it's needed. The independent service works closely with the University of Portsmouth to resolve issues and ensure students are treated fairly.

UPSU are here to represent every student at the University of Portsmouth. We have many ways you can express your student voice, including: our Course Rep system, Have Your Say, Student Council, StART, Hot Topic, Annual Survey, Focus Groups, and more! Construction begins on the Student Hub!

Big changes are coming to the heart of the University of Portsmouth campus, with construction officially underway on a new Student Hub designed to bring student life, support and community together in one place.

The new Student Hub will transform the existing Students’ Union building on Cambridge Road and create a new connecting space linking it with the University Library. The aim is to make it easier for students to access the spaces, services and opportunities that support university life.

The project began with a ground-breaking ceremony on 19 October 2026, marking an exciting step forward in the University's £250 million Estate Masterplan.

Plans for the Hub include a student lounge, wellbeing consultation spaces, a coffee bar and kitchen, and dedicated areas for societies and student communities. There will also be a new events space and bar, creating more opportunities for students to get together, take part in activities and build connections across campus.

Whether you're looking for somewhere to catch up with friends, get involved with a society, attend an event or access support, the Hub is being designed with different aspects of student life in mind.

A new home for your Students' Union

The Students' Union will be based within the new Hub, bringing key services and opportunities closer together. Students will be able to access advice services, student representation, societies, volunteering opportunities and a programme of events and activities.

By bringing these facilities together, the Hub aims to create a welcoming space where students can connect with their community, explore new opportunities and find support throughout their time at Portsmouth.

A space shaped around student life

The Student Hub is part of the University's wider investment in improving the campus experience. Its location at Ravelin Park also connects the development to the history of the site, which has evolved over time alongside the University.

You may already have noticed the construction hoardings around the development area. These feature information about the project and visualisations offering a glimpse of what the finished building could look like.

The new Student Hub is expected to open in spring 2028.

Until then, the project marks the beginning of a new chapter for student life at Portsmouth, with plans for a central space that brings together studying, socialising, wellbeing and the Students' Union.
