Revolutionary Communists
Common Interest
We are the Portsmouth Student Society for the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP), the British section of the Revolutionary Communist International.
Tired of capitalism? Then get organised with the RCP and fight for collective liberation!
War, imperialism, and climate catastrophe—these are all symptoms of the system. Unmask its contradictions with us.
Within our society, we are constructing an educated base of committed Marxists. To use Karl Marx's most famous words: “The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point is to change it.”
We will achieve this through:
- Weekly Literature Discussion (Communist Manifesto, State and Revolution, The Transitional Programme, and more).
- Learning more about the RCP as an organisation, our history and our objectives within the UK and internationally.
- Discussion of Global Affairs, such as the ongoing Genocides in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Palestine.
- Discussion of Global Socialist Revolutionaries such as Vladimir Lenin, Thomas Sankara, Che Guevara and Leila Khaled.
Additionally, we hope to provide opportunities for young Comrades to engage not just in Theory, but in Action! Those who are interested are encouraged to attend recruitment stalls to help build the Vanguard Party, as well as public protest action to defend our streets from reactionary racists!
This includes:
- Attending Local Recruitment Stalls to discuss communism with the local community/other Students
- Protest Intervention to demand a militant struggle against the forces of reaction
- Strike Support for our fellow lecturers and University Staff, we all deserve fair pay and conditions!

FAQ
Q: Are you affiliated with a Political Organisation?
- We are affiliated with the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP); however, this is not an official Branch of the RCP.
Q: Do I have to be a Communist to join?
- No! We are open to absolutely everyone interested in learning more about Communism, Revolution and the RCP.
Q: I'm a communist but not a Trotskyist. Is this society right for me?
- Of course! We recognise people come to many conclusions when reading theory, our goal is to base ourselves on the most accurate understanding of today and to improve upon the revolutions of the past!
Q: Do I have to pay to be a member?
- Yep, the society sessions are Free! However there are occasions where we may be travelling to London for events such as Revolution Festival (November) and London Marxist School (March), which are not free.

Memberships will reopen in September for the 26/27 academic year.
