Black History Month @ UPSU

What's On this Black History Month at The Union

  • Posted Tue, Oct 5, 2021 12:42 PM

October marks Black History Month in the UK.

The event was officially recognised by the US government in 1976, and first celebrated in the UK in 1987.

Campaigners believe that the value and contribution to society of those from African and Caribbean backgrounds is often overlooked, ignored or distorted.

Most schools still teach a history curriculum which focuses on traditional events and the achievements of white figures.

Black History Month gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.

At the Union, we're celebrating Black History Month throughout October with a whole host of events such as film nights, panels business showcase and all across our social media.

Here are all the events which are coming up!

Visual and Literary Arts Contest: Black History Month

MOVIE NIGHT! Hidden Figures: A Black History Month Screening

Employability Panel: Black History Month

MOVIE NIGHT! Homecoming: A Black History Month Digital Screening

MOVIE NIGHT! Cool Runnings: A Black History Month screening
