The academic year is over and it’s finally time to catch some rays! With so much on offer in Portsmouth, you’ll have no trouble finding some interesting things to do with your free time. Here’s a few recommendations of what to slot into your summer schedule.

Summer Fayres

Enjoy good food, live music, drinks, and activities at fayres across Portsmouth this Summer.

The Visit Portsmouth website will list any upcoming fayres, including a New York-inspired vintage fayre at Gunwharf Quays. The festivities will be taking place from the 22nd July to early September and are a great way to spend a summer afternoon/evening with a few friends.

Live Music

Feel the summer vibes with some live music in Portsmouth this summer. Experience festivals, concerts and free, live performances across the city, many of which you can find listed here.

Portsmouth is a great place for enjoying some music by the sea, and with so many talented local artists, what better way to spend an evening with friends?

As well as the live music, some festivals also offer comedy performances with many recognisable faces. Whether it’s comedy or music, you are bound to find something you’ll enjoy!

Museums

If you’re looking to learn a few new things over the break, Portsmouth offers interesting museums that cover topics including the Tudors, D-Day, submarines, and explosives. Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is holding events over the summer which you can check out on the website.

Art Exhibitions

Break up the live music and food stalls with a peaceful afternoon at an art exhibition this summer.

Portsmouth Cathedral is hosting the Portsmouth & Hampshire Art Society Summer Exhibition, beginning on the 30th July. The collection is open daily and free to attend, showcasing a range of vivid and exciting artwork by the members of the society. Relax

Amidst all these activities, it’s important to have some time to chill. Grab a Dominos with our student offers, head down to the Common or Southsea Beach with some friends, and relax. There’s always stuff going on in Portsmouth, so ignore the FOMO and chill.

Summer at the University

Stay connected with the university during the summer by checking out any upcoming events on the website. With the start of term approaching, a number of exciting events will be added to the calendar. You should also keep an eye on the Union page, as we count down to Freshers Fayre!

Feel free to come down to the Union if you need a space to relax or would like to browse in the shop. Opening hours are 9am - 3pm Monday - Friday, or you can browse and shop on the online store to get yourself prepared for the new academic year!
