Graduation is fast approaching and it’s time to get ready to celebrate your achievements. Whether you’re walking the stage yourself or cheering on a loved one, here’s everything you need to know to prepare for an unforgettable day.
Preparing for graduation
Confirm your ceremony date
Graduation ceremonies will take place between 22 and 31 July 2025 at Portsmouth Guildhall. Make sure to check your exact ceremony date and time via this link.
Tickets
Each graduate is entitled to 2 complimentary guest tickets which will be emailed directly to your guests. Your own graduate e-ticket will be available for download 48 hours before your ceremony. Make sure you and your guests have your tickets available on the day!
What to wear
Dress to impress with your official cap, gown and hood which should be pre-booked online. If you haven’t done so already, hire your gown through Student View. Your gown can be collected 2 hours before your ceremony from the first floor of Ravelin Sports Centre. If your ceremony is at 10:00, you can collect your gown between 16:00-18:00 the day before.
Accommodation and travel
It’s worth booking accommodation early, especially if you are travelling from far and want to avoid the morning rush stress. It might come in handy if you’re planning to enjoy the city post ceremony and having a fun night around the city. For those driving to Portsmouth, parking around Guildhall square or in nearby areas of Southsea is available, though we recommend allowing extra time to find a spot. Also, parking spots can be booked in advance from Portsmouth Grammar School.
On the day
Arrive early! Make sure you’re at Portsmouth Guildhall with your e-ticket ready. Doors open 1 hour before your ceremony begins and guests should be seated at least 10 minutes before the start (latecomers may not be allowed in!!).
Expect the ceremony to last between 1 and 1.5 hours, during which a professional photographer will capture the special moments.
Once the formalities are over, head to Graduation Village in Ravelin Park to meet friends and family and truly soak in the moment. It’s your time and we hope you enjoy it!

Picture perfect moments
Photography packages
Pre-paid photography packages allow you to drop in anytime during the day for a 30 minute shoot on the first floor of Ravelin Sports Centre. If you’re doing your shoot before your ceremony, just be sure to schedule enough time to get from Ravelin to Guildhall.
Tips for the best graduation photos
- Always have the sun behind the camera (i.e. facing you)
- Avoid harsh midday sun and go for shots in the shadow instead
- Golden hour pictures for soft lighting!
- Not sure how to pose? What do to with your hands? Browse Pinterest for ideas
