"On behalf of the entire team and The University of Portsmouth Students’ Union, please accept our deepest sympathies Your Majesty King Charles III and the royal family, on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. What a legacy she leaves behind with her lifetime service to her people and charity work.

We understand that many of our students may be affected by this news in different ways, please know that we are here to support you during this time. We, like the rest of the country will be mindful and respectful of the period of mourning to commemorate the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and will communicate any changes made to our welcome month activities in due time." - The Elected Officer Team 2022-23

Buckingham Palace announced the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96 on Thursday 8th September 2022.

As we enter a period of national mourning (expected to be around 10 days), we will keep students updated on how this will impact Welcome Month and the beginning of the academic year as and when further information is released.

The Vice Chancellor of The University of Portsmouth has also released a statement on the University Website.
