The University of Portsmouth has ranked Gold for the second time in a row for the Teaching Excellence Framework!
"We know that rankings and accreditations like the Teaching Excellence Framework are important to a lot of students and especially prospective students to the University. We are really proud to be part of a University with a Gold status for the second time in a row. It is important that all students, whatever their background, can have confidence that they will receive a high-quality higher education and positive outcomes. At the Students' Union we will continue to work in partnership with the University to ensure this."
- Kajetan Albin, Learning Experience Officer 2023-24
This is the second time that the University has achieved Gold status and as part of the University's submission to the Office for Students, the Union submitted the student submission aspect of the requirements, led by the student contact, Jade Underwood (Learning Experience Officer 2021-23).
What is the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF)?
The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) is a nationwide scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS) that aims to encourage universities and colleges to improve and deliver excellence in the areas that students care about the most: teaching, learning, and achieving positive outcomes from their studies.
The TEF achieves this by assessing and rating institutions based on excellence above a set of minimum requirements for quality and standards.
Institutions that participate in the TEF receive an overall rating as well as two additional ratings - one for the student experience and one for student outcomes.
These ratings reflect how well an institution provides an excellent experience and outcomes for its undergraduate students and across all its undergraduate courses and subjects.
What is the Student Submission?
Students have the chance to share their thoughts on the quality of their educational experience and outcomes by submitting their views. The student submission for a university or college is managed by the TEF student contact, which for this submission was Jade Underwood, your previous Learning Experience Officer.
"As the primary elected officer responsible for the student submission and as a TEF panel member who has evaluated and rated numerous submissions from different universities, I am delighted to hear that our institution has attained the prestigious TEF Gold status. Achieving this recognition is a significant accomplishment!"
- Jade Underwood, Learning Experience Officer 2021-23 & TEF Panel Member
