Work with us
Student Council Chair (Student Role Only)
The Student Council is the primary decision making body for all of UPSU’s student ideas and democratic decisions. All student petitions which have passed through our ‘Have Your Say’ process will come before the Student Council for discussion and actioning. Student Council members will then provide guidance, advice, and support to these campaigns.
This group aims to represent all students at the University of Portsmouth in order to give students across the University a voice and opportunity to improve the student experience. This board is selected from their respective Faculties, student groups and Elected Officers and will draw on students interested in campaigns concerning defined aspects of the Liberation, Student and Academic Experiences.
The Position:
The Student Council Chair has the unique distinction of being the designated Leader of Student Council; the Chair leads the meetings, approves the agenda and sets the actions for various tasks for the members of the Council.
The successful candidate will be supported within their role by the Democracy and Campaigns Officer, who will serve as the deputy chair, and will be given the opportunity to receive training on effective chairing. The successful candidate must have the ability to remain objective and neutral at all times and be able to look at ideas from different perspectives. While neutral, the Chair may decide to champion and campaign on any issue.
What’s in it for you?
- You’ll gain valuable skills in leadership and conflict management
- You’ll develop your organisation and time management skills
- You’ll gain campaigns experience
- A chance to get more out of your university experience.
