BAME Ambassador Scheme
It's time for action. We've got an exciting opportunity to become a BAME Ambassador with the Union.
- Posted Fri, Aug 21, 2020 11:56 AM
We are recruiting a team of BAME Ambassadors! With three students per faculty who are able to understand the experiences of and represent BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) students.
Are you an activist? A critical thinker? A bold thinker? And not afraid to challenge the status quo? Aid your faculty to decolonise and diversity the curriculum and the student experience, while helping to run campaigns designed to tackle racial barriers in education. All while being supported by the Students' Union and your fellow officers.
What's in it for you?
- The chance to work with a passionate team of staff and student volunteers.
- You’ll develop your team working skills and planning skills with events.
- You’ll develop communications skills through the discussions you will have with both the University, Students’ Union and students.
- You’ll develop skills in order to deliver reactive campaigns to current social movements.
- You’ll develop the ability to co-create with university staff within your faculty.
- It will look great on your CV, job applications or to future employers.
At the students Union, we acknowledge and understand the conversations happening around the acronym ‘BAME’. We would like to reassure students that we do not believe in grouping cohorts of students together under one generic name and understand the disparities between each community. However, due to the term ‘BAME’ being used by the OFS (Office for Students) and the University, we will continue with its use for consistency in the work we will be doing.
If any student has any suggestions for improvements to the name, please contact rama.hilouneh@upsu.net
