This article was published on our website.
We are so excited to welcome you to the University of Portsmouth Esports Society! We are an ever growing community of like-minded individuals who have a great passion for video games of all kinds, as well as pride and determination when representing our university in NSE & NUEL tournaments.
For those returning to our society, welcome back and get ready for another year of exciting mayhem!
Our committee is coming back this year with a new vision and fresh goals for the society:
Work together. Play together. Celebrate together.
We want our members to feel welcome, creating a safe space for all and promoting a team spirit. And on that note...
...The committee says hello! :)
Max (President and League of Legends Representative) @cementt
"Hi my name is Cement, or Max, and I am (the president of the University of Portsmouth and I am) a 3rd-year Business and Management student. I sadly play league of legends so I guess that's why I'm here but what I like doing is making music either on my own or with my band Concrete Fern. As president this year I would like to bring every game group together more often, even if we are without a student union building this year. I would also like every player to feel more rewarded in their games, regardless of their rank or position, and overall increase the quality of time spent in the society and have increased variety in social events for everyone. I also acknowledge Splatoon!"
Eleanora (Vice-President) @eleanor
"Hello, my name is Eleanor and I am a 3rd-year Biology student! I have a huge interest in Esports as well as an old love of competitive games, Overwatch being my first big FPS game. Most of my free time I spend at my desk whether that be playing games, watching TV, or building Lego (when I get the chance). For my role as Vice-President this year I am to have the society take place in more Charity events for our usual support being 'special effect'. I would also love for our society to become more of a community again by creating a more thriving discord as well as a higher volume of monthly socials."
Henrique (Secretary) @hiren3e
"Hi! My name is Henrique but I also go by Henri and am a 2nd-year nursing student. I occasionally dabble with League of Legends but mainly enjoy watching competitive matches rather than playing in them. In my free time, you can find me brain-rotting as I scroll through TikTok, playing GTA RP and a cheeky Roblox horror game, or building my vast catalogue of Pinterest boards to find new things to spend money on. As your secretary, I am in charge of ensuring operations are going smoothly and that communication is up to an excellent standard. I am also the website guardian and you may find me taking over tasks if necessary."
Ben J. (Treasurer) @expertwings
"Hi, I'm Ben — a 3rd-year economics student currently doing a one-year placement as an eCommerce intern for a large contact lens manufacturer. I love football, specifically Ipswich (up the town) and am quite a big fan of League of Legends. I’m joking, its practically my life. As your treasurer this year, I'm focused on ensuring that our society has the financial stability it needs to grow and thrive. This year, I'll be working hard to consolidate our funding so we can confidently plan and host bigger and better events, complete with all the equipment needed to make them great."
Ben D. (Social & Events Lead and Overwatch 2 Representative) @ily.ben
"Hi, I'm Ben! I study music technology, specialising in sound design and creative computing, as well as making my own music on the side in my studio. In my spare time, as well as playing overwatch, I enjoy playing magic at the gatherings and competing in mathematics competitions (I'm a massive nerd). This year I aim to lead consistent bi-weekly socials for the society, along with building a strong sense of community within the society!"
Kwad (Social Media Lead) @kwad.
"Hey, my name is Kwad and I'm an avid overwatch player (1 of 8 left) and a part of the social media team. Studying cyber security and digital forensics. Bit of a pokemon nerd to the point I got Pokemon tattoos. You'll probably find me always listening to music and not my lecturers. I have some big plans for the social media that you’ll see throughout the year. Growing the society to be bigger and better within the university scene. "
Fletcher (Social Media Officer and Social & Events Officer) @kalmaroo
"Hi, my name is Fletcher, I am a second year media student. In my free time I like to play competitive games such as overwatch and occasionally league of legends. As well as these I love to play Pokémon and other random games I stumble across. As a media student I love watching films (my favourite being interstellar). This year my aim is to build on the esport societies social media, I want to garner new attention and help grow the societies community. I believe that social media can help to bring this society together and thus as my role as social media coordinator I want to use our platform to create greater connection within the esports society here at Portsmouth."
Nana (Welfare Officer) @sneakynarnar
"Hey gamers, it's Nana a.k.a. "sneakynarnar" or "sneaky". I'm on the welfare team with my friend Ashe. I play a multitude of games such as Overwatch, Valorant and Counter-strike but I mainly play Rocket League (casually) and Splatoon semi-competitively. Outside of video games I'm a professional full-stack developer, taking software engineering (3rd-year). I also do rap and music production as a hobby. My plans for this society are to unite all games together as a society where you can play the games you like but still know people outside of them, and to make the society more inclusive so no one feels left out! Make sure to send the welfare team a DM if you have ideas to achieve these goals. :)"
Ashe (Welfare Officer) @beanstherat
Hello I’m Ashe, I’m a member of the welfare team and I’m currently retaking my 2nd-year of animation. I spend most of my time playing Splatoon, Minecraft, Detroit: Become Human and Skyrim. My other interests include drawing, playing guitar and listening to music with some of my favourite bands being Elbow, Radiohead and Miles Kane. As a welfare officer, I intend to make the community a more inclusive and welcoming space for all members, with a focus on mental health support, general well-being and reducing discriminatory behaviour within the main server. Throughout the upcoming year, I plan to organise “quieter” and sober socials, such as café meetups and online party games, to encourage members from across the society to engage with each other more, and provide a good range of socials for all to enjoy. :)"
Kristen (Women & Non-Binary Representative) @kristentacles
"Hiya my name is Kristen and I am a second year nursing student and also your WNB (women and non-binary) representative. You’ll mainly find me playing games like Overwatch, Elden Ring, Dead by Daylight and Good Pizza Great Pizza. In my free time I like to go rock climbing, crochet and do bad taxidermy. I’m looking forward to growing our WNB community and hosting some great socials and game night, helping to make the society a more exciting and accepting space. Please always feel free to message me through discord about any concerns or if you just want a chat!"
Jake (Counter-Strike 2 Representative) @jaker00
"Hello! My name is Jake and I'm in my 2nd-year of Software Engineering! I'm a massive fan of computers — I enjoy building and fixing them. I play a lot of games, especially Counter-Strike 2, and I also like playing badminton. As the Counter-Strike 2 Representative, I plan to organize regular gaming sessions and keep the team connected. My focus this year is to ensure everyone enjoys the game, whether they're playing competitively or just for fun."
Ryan (Rainbow: Six Siege Representative) @ryagod
"Hi, my name is Ryan and I'm in my 3rd-year here studying Computer Animation and Visual Effects. In my spare time I like sketching and photography. I had a lot of fun playing in NSE and NUEL across a few different games last year, and as rep this year I hope to make sure it remains fun for everyone. :)"
Liam (Rocket League Representative) @cooll1307
"Hey, I'm Liam and I am the Rocket League Representative. I have been playing rocket league since 2015. I am currently studying Journalism with Media Studies and I am a 3rd year. My hobbies include football and counter strike and my main interest is esports management. This year I plan to give back to our Rocket League community through tournaments/6 mans prizes and other online and offline events throughout the year. Myself and Haz will be working our hardest to make UoP Rocket League a fun and inviting place for all to join. "
Milly (Valorant Representative) @millyy
"Hiya! My name is Milly — I'm doing a law degree and going into 3rd-year. My hobbies are reading, Valorant, and lots of music. My outline for the year is to get more people interested in Valorant and host various social and community events throughout the year."
Enki (Valorant Representative) @enki_val
"Hey i'm Enki, I'm a second year games technology student. My hobbies are playing valorant and other games, and also developing games. This year we want to get more people playing in the valorant university tournaments, and host more socials and online events."
Tim (Splatoon Representative) @t1m.g
"Hi I’m Tim and I’m a 2nd-year linguistics student. I play lots of Splatoon (obviously) and League of Legends as well as other competitive games. In my free time play a variety of table-top miniatures games and competitive TCGs. I hope to better and grow the Splatoon community at UoP so let me know if you are interested in trying the game or joining us for some causal (or competitive) matches."
Welcome to the team, Paladins.
