From Your Union and University:

Our thoughts are with all of our students who are affected by ongoing conflict.

We know that this is an incredibly difficult time for many members of our student community.

During such a distressing time we understand that anyone affected may be worried and upset and looking for support. We support anyone in our student community who needs it as a result of any current events, and encourage you to reach out.

Support

If you are feeling overwhelmed at this time, when faced with such awful events, and you need someone to talk to, the Student Wellbeing and Chaplaincy Teams are places where you will find support as well as through the Res Life team:

It is also understandable that you may feel that this could impact your coursework, deadlines or assessments - you are able to access the Union independent academic support service to discuss options - please contact The Union’s Advice Team:

You may also be worried about your finances. if so, reach out to the University Student Finance Team who can help you with money advice and to apply for hardship funds:

For concerns around course fees or making your tuition payments you can contact the University Income Team:

If you feel unsafe, please feel free to contact PC Clare Parry, our Police Liaison Officer who has said she is happy to talk to any students that are feeling unsafe due to the ongoing conflict. She can also be contacted by email at clare.parry@hampshire.pnn.police.uk or by phone on 07392 289 776.

If you are in crisis or you need support outside of office hours, you can get support by contacting security lodge on 023 9284 3418

Report hate crime and harassment

We ask everyone to respect and support each other and we want to remind everyone that racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, incitement or harassment of any kind will never be tolerated. If you've been a victim of or witnessed any hate incident or crime, we strongly encourage you to report it. You can report it directly to the police, to the University or both. Even anonymous reporting can help to inform actions and policies to tackle issues.

Community Security Trust also has a national emergency number which should be used to report antisemitic attacks, alongside calling 999 - this is 0800 032 3263.

Tell Mama is a confidential support service for those suffering from anti-Muslim hate and discrimination across the UK. Their website features a number of different ways to report anti-Muslim incidents, including via phone or WhatsApp.

Choosing to attend demonstrations or protests? How to do so safely

Whilst we understand and support an individuals' choice to demonstrate or protest, please be conscious of staying safe whilst doing so.

  • Do not break the law, this includes acts of hate crime
  • Follow guidelines set out by organisers and local authorities
  • Look after those around you and make sure they are safe
  • If you feel unsafe, report this to police or local authorities in attendance
  • Look after your own wellbeing, such as staying hydrated
