The LGBTQ+ Glossary
The LGBTQ+ words you didn't know you didn't know
- Posted Wed, Feb 17, 2021 11:57 AM
February is LGBTQ+ History Month!
It's a time to celebrate everything that queer people have created - art, music, history... and a whole host of words you might have heard, but aren't quite sure what they mean.
For example, do you know that the full abbreviation is actually LGBTQQIAAP? And that it stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Allies, Asexual and Pansexual? It is a bit of a mouthful and a lot to remember, so it is commonly shortened to LGBTQ+.
This list includes the most common words associated with the LGBTQ+ community and preferred terminology. It's a starting point to familiarise yourself with the community and learn more about what queer people have brought to the world. You might know a few of these, all of these or you might be here to learn something new - it is a safe space for all.
