Invitation on International Women's Day
UNIVERSITY OF PORTSMOUTH INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025 #MeToo: Global and Regional, Past and Present
- Posted Thu, Feb 20, 2025 8:38 PM
According to the UN Women data, the #MeToo movement on Twitter saw over 24 million impressions globally between October 2017 and December 2019.
Many countries had over 1 million impressions, and over 20 had more than 100,000 mentions. So, what now?
What happened after 8 years of #MeToo movement? Our world changed, our society changed, and those unspoken voices kept on empowering other voices to come and narrate the truth in front of the world. Join us at the University of Portsmouth for a powerful International Women’s Day 2025 event, #MeToo: Global and Regional, Past and Present, as we reflect on the movement that changed the world. From a grassroots initiative to a global force, #MeToo has reshaped conversations around gender equality, justice, and survivor empowerment.
This thought-provoking gathering will feature renowned experts and scholars, including Medinat Abdulazeez Malefakis, Chang-Ling Huang, Marta Roqueta-Fernàndez, and Megan Stubbs-Richardson, who will explore the movement’s impact over the years—past, present – in Nigeria, East Asia, Catalonia and Portugal and a cross-national context. Their insights and expertise will contribute to meaningful discussions on gender equality, empowerment, and the ongoing impact of the #MeToo movement worldwide. Come join us in this extraordinary event and be a part of this powerful conversation.
