This year, your Development Officer Dan organised Soulful Celebration. The aim was to bring together our community to celebrate the unique and diverse cultures of our students. Held on the 24th of October, the event was a beautiful showcase of shared heritage, powerful performances, and a warm, inclusive atmosphere designed for everyone to enjoy.

The event encouraged attendees to wear cultural attire that represented their heritage, and bring dishes that reminded them of home, transforming the gathering into a feast of flavors.

A highlight of the evening was a dynamic Afro-Fusion dance performance by our talented student group. We were blown away by the talent of our student groups and are so grateful for them sharing their joy with us.

Musical Production also took to the stage, their energetic harmonies that instantly lifted the crowd. Their performance created a strong sense of unity, bringing everyone together in the moment.

Students signed a pledge board promising to reclaim and celebrate the richness of black history and culture by amplifying Black voices and honouring the untold stories of black achievement within and beyond our campus.

The event was a great reminder of the strength in community and cultural pride, leaving everyone feeling connected and inspired. Soulful Celebration brought people together, highlighting the diversity that makes our community unique. Looking forward to more gatherings like this!

This Black History Month, we have also observed Wear Red Day (18th October) for the campaign, Show Racism the Red Card. Many staff and students wore red to show their support for the campaign across campus.

We also ran a social media campaign, which highlighting notable Black figures throughout history, telling our followers about who they were and the amazing things they achieved.

We're still looking to reignite Humans of Portsmouth, based on the Instagram of Humans of New York. A powerful movement which captures images of individuals and dives deep into their stories of their life. Want to get involved? Email marketing@upsu.net
