Exam Forecast: Chaotic, But Manageable

By now, deadlines and exams are starting to reach your orbit. Maybe you’ve already felt the panic set in, or maybe you’re still in the ‘I’ll deal with it later’ phase. Either way, we’ve got you. Think of this as a little reading with part advice and part reassurance. Take what resonates and leave what doesn’t. 

Before we get into your Study Personality, let’s ground ourselves. A plan will care you further than motivation ever will. Break your modules or assignments into smaller, manageable pieces and map them out so that you know what you’re doing next. Try working bursts: 25 minutes of focus, 5 minutes rest (Pomodoro technique). After a couple of rounds, step away properly. Have something to eat, get some air and remind your brain that there’s a world outside of your notes. You might have some gravi-tea to keep yourself grounded.

Now let’s see, which description below feels a little bit too accurate?


The Procastinator 

You don’t need to lock yourself away to make a start. Just start with five minutes: open your notes, highlight something, organise some notes. Ease yourself into it and the momentum will show up before you realise. Once you’re in, switch to short focused sessions to keep going. If it helps, put on a ‘study with me’ video so you’re not doing it alone. 

The Burnt-Out

Everything feels like too much, so make it smaller. Make micro-goals: read a page, one paragraph or one concept. Start with the easiest tasks (e.g. organise notes or set things up) and build from there. Change your environment if you can. Try a different room or go to the library. And during breaks, give your brain actual rest by stepping away from your study space and look at anything that doesn’t resemble a piece of paper or a screen. 

The ‘I’ll Do It The Day Before’

Make the pressure work for you. Drop the guilt and focus on weaker areas. Learn actively by testing yourself through flashcards and practising mock questions. Condense everything into a quick cheat sheet so you can revisit important concepts on the go. The day before the exam, prepare your bag with exam essentials. On the day of, eat something, stay calm and maybe avoid those last minute panic conversations. 

The Night Owl

Sattelite the night - you come alive when everything else quiets down. Avoid studying in bed so your brain doesn’t blur rest and work. Stay engaged with active recall and read concepts out loud so you don’t drift. And even if your schedule looks different, try to keep your sleep consistent (e.g. sleep from 3am-11am). Just don’t forget the basics: water and actual meals. 

The Reward Chaser

After each focused session, give yourself something small: a snack, social media scroll or message a friend. For bigger milestones, plan something you’ll genuinely look forward to, like the Summer Ball with all of your friends.
