About Powerlifting Society

Welcome to UoP Powerlifting Club!

Here at the University of Portsmouth Powerlifting Club, we guide students to become their strongest self! Our goal is to influence more people in to the sport, and prepare them for competitions. Since starting out in 2021, we had a good two handfuls of our members that competed, on both divisional and national level under the GBPF (Great British Powerlifting Federation), which is a part of the IPF (International Powerlifting Federation). We are aiming to double this in the next academic year, with BUCS (British University and College Sports) being our top priority competition! Would you like to represent your university on a national platform? JOIN US! All abilities are welcome, no experience required!

MEMBERSHIPS

A standard £60 yearly full membership is required to be a part of the UoP Powerlifting Club.

Membership includes:

  • Weekly training session

  • A training program designed by our Head Coach

  • Discounted membership rate at Fitness24 (Gosport)

  • Competition Guidance/Practise

  • Weekly social activities

If you require a more personalised in-depth coaching, you may purchase an additional £15 online coaching membership. This will give you access to our online coaches, which will be able to provide you advice on form, program, weekly check ins and much more.

TRAINING

Our regular weekly training sessions will take place at The Box Portsmouth. Although the equipment available at The Box is not IPF approved, the weight plates and the barbells are the correct diameter, and there are LOTS of them. Following last year's structure, our members are able to train freely, whilst helping each other out. For less experienced lifters, we can provide guidance and teach them how to Squat, Bench, and Deadlift (Conventional or Sumo).

Additionally, we partnered up with Fitness24 in Gosport for a slightly discounted membership price, where we organise smaller training sessions every once in a while. These facilities are full of IPF approved competition equipment which can be beneficial to train with, especially preparing for a competition.

Outside of group training sessions, our members train at various gyms around Portsmouth, including Ravelin Sports Centre, Pure Gym, The Gym, City Gym etc.
