About us:

We are the UoP Music Society! We comprise of 4 different ensembles that run Monday-Thursday. Within our rehearsals, we welcome students, staff and members of the community, and aim to provide a welcoming environment for all. 

Ensembles:

Big Band

• Big Band is held on Mondays at the White Swan Building (WSB), Studio 5 from 18:00-20:00
• The band plays jazz, funk, soul and blues, playing at various venues (including pubs!), as well as concerts and balls throughout the year
• Consists of saxophones, various brass, keys, rhythm and vocalists
• Improvisation skills are very useful!

Concert Band

• Concert band is held on Tuesdays at the WSB, Studio 5 from 18:00-20:00
• Plays a variety of modern songs and classics, from the stage and screen, pop songs and folk
• A range of concerts throughout the year
• Consists of all wind, all brass and percussion

Choir

• The choir is held on Wednesdays in Eldon 1.1, from 17:30-19:30
• Performs an assortment of pieces throughout history

Orchestra

• Orchestra is held on Thursdays at the WSB, Studio 5 from 18:00-20:00
• Plays a mixture of Classical, Baroque, Romantic and 20th Century Music with around 3 concerts a year
• Consists of all strings, all wind, all brass and percussion

Private Lessons:

• If you are interested in learning to play an instrument don't hesitate to email: music@port.ac.uk
• Private lessons are NOT included in the membership fee as they are coordinated externally.

Practice rooms:

• If you would like to use any of our 3 practice rooms in WSB, please email music@port.ac.uk
• All practice rooms have a piano and a music stand, and are on a first come, first served basis

Socials:

• We try to run 1 social event a week, including sober socials. Check out our Instagram for more, and join our WhatsApp group once you've joined the Society!

Membership for the Society costs £10 for the year with a £30 facilities charge. You can pay for the membership below!
