Welcome to the University of Portsmouth Chess Society!
Hello everyone and welcome to the University of Portsmouth Chess Society!
A bit about us:
- Established in 2022 and proud 2024 South Coast Uni Champions!
- Weekly sessions: Tuesdays from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Neptune Building.
- All skill levels welcome: Whether you are a veteran player or completely new to chess, this society is for you!
- Socials & Tournaments: Every week we host fun socials, as well as seasonal internal and external tournaments.
What can you expect from our sessions?
Fun, interactive evenings! Whether you want to learn, challenge yourself, or just socialize over a game of chess, it's a great space to unwind and meet new people.
Do I need a membership or a big commitment?
Not at all! Membership is free. If you're not sure, feel free to just come along for a few sessions to check it out. If you only want to pop in every once in a while throughout the year, go for it!
How can I contact you guys?
Instagram DMs are our best form of communication, but we also check our emails weekly. You're also more than welcome to just show up unannounced!
How can I develop my skills in the society?
We actively encourage new members to compete in team tournaments, and we can help with ECF registrations and obtaining an official chess rating. Alongside that, we have books, resources, and experienced members eager to teach and help you grow.
What skill range do you have?
Our members range from 2000+ ELO all the way to complete beginners! We will actively pair you up with people at your level and help teach you the basics.
Chess Society is a fantastic community for both introverts and extroverts, offering the chance to meet and connect with over 50 members one-on-one. Our committee will always make sure you feel welcome and comfortable here! :)
