How Will This Idea Benefit Students?
The students’ union sabbatical re-structure makes it apparent that there will no longer be a sabbatical officer solely responsible for the representation of student sport at Portsmouth. The removal of the VP Sport will result in a lack of representation for one of the most engaged groups of students at the University and cause thousands of students to disengage with The Union. Furthermore, without a Sport Officer there will be nobody in place to facilitate the necessary relationship between Sport and Recreation and the Union.
A new Sport Officer could be added to the Union’s existing democratic structures so that those students who only engage with the Union via a sports club are fully represented. Additionally, this will provide an opportunity to establish a Sport Officer role to replicate the structure of other successful Universities, most notably The University of Nottingham and University of Manchester.
