How Will This Idea Benefit Students?

When you are in your final year at university you are generally in fewer lectures/seminars. I would imagine most people (like myself have) only have 4 taught units in the final year with the fifth being the study project. Now my proposal is simple, students have less lectures/seminars in the final year due to having less units yet they still pay the same amount in tuition fees that first and second years do. This (in my opinion is unfair) final year students should pay less because we have been here longer and we are in university less than students in other year. The second part of my idea is the removal of fees for students on placement year. In my opinion (and I have spoken to a couple of students on placement) there is no need for students to be paying 10% of the tuition fee for a placement year when they are not actually attending the university for that year. As far as I am aware lecturers check on students a couple of times a year but that's it. Now to me nothing warrants 10% of the tuition fee during a placement year. Yes a lecturer may visit a couple of times throughout the placement but at the end of the day the student is working as an intern of the company and does not really have any association with the university for that year.

A potential alternative to these ideas (and this could be applied to every year) is to actually provide students with a full year by year breakdown of what the £9250 or £925 (if you are on placement) In tuition fees contributes to and how it actually benefits students.
