What's On

At UPSU's Advice Service, we offer confidential, impartial and non-judgemental support on a range of academic and university issues that may affect your experience. Our team of trained advisers are on hand all year round to offer help where it's needed. The independent service works closely with the University of Portsmouth to resolve issues and ensure students are treated fairly.

UPSU are here to represent every student at the University of Portsmouth. We have many ways you can express your student voice, including: our Course Rep system, Have Your Say, Student Council, StART, Hot Topic, Annual Survey, Focus Groups, and more! Welcome to UPSU

Free Creative Cloud Access for Design Students

Creative Cloud is no longer free to use for design students meaning we cannot access the necessary software at home and on our own devices. Although the university suites have the software available it limits the amount of productivity that can be achieved and feels like £65 a year is very steep considering we already pay thousands in yearly fees. It was available last year and gives students the opportunity to study and develop outside of the lectures.

How Will This Idea Benefit Students?

Allow students to develop new skills in the relevant software and also complete modules on their own devices without having to pay additional fees that we did not have to pay for last year. I believe that this could effect grades for students as not everyone can easily access the computers on campus and the majority of students use the software at home.

How Can The Union Achieve This?

Remove the £65 price set on the software and grant all Design students with the option to download the software on their own devices.

Discussions with CCI faculty members

Dec 19, 2022

The assigned elected officer Ayoola Johnson has been working with members of the CCI faculty to see how this can be achieved. It was discussed that due to cost restrictions it will be quite challenging to have the programme available for all students in the faculty immediately.
Student Council has been discussing whether they could at least provide this service for vulnerable students who may be especially struggling with this.

Motion passed in Student Council

Oct 26, 2022

The petition was discussed at the student council meeting on the 21/10/2022. The motion passed through student council with 5 approvals, 1 rejection and 3 suspensions. This HYS was assigned to elected officer Ayoola Johnson and he will be following up with CCI faculty members to explore the possibility of implementing the suggestions.
