Student Elections Results 2023!

A full breakdown of this years Election results! And a huge thank you to the 5,482 turned out to vote in this years election!

Firsty, a huge thank you to every single one of you who voted in this year's elections to decide your 2023/24 Elected Officer team!

A whopping 5,482 of you voted this year, that’s the biggest turnout we’ve had in 9 years! Meaning we had an 18% turnout of the entire student population.

Here at the Union, we use the single transferable voting system to decide our elections. If you aren’t too sure on how this works, our friends at Lincoln SU have created a quick little video explaining it using chocolate! 

The full breakdown of this years elections are as follows:

Academic Representation

For the position of Academic Representation Officer, 3,748 students voted for this position and the quota was 1,875. This election went to 8 rounds

  • In the first round, Shakar Mohammad Payman was eliminated with 45 votes
  • In the second round, No Suitable Candidate (NCS) was eliminated with 70 votes
  • In the third round, Jerry Ekele Okoro was eliminated with 288 votes
  • In the fourth round, Faizur Rahman Mohammed Farook was eliminated with 414 votes
  • In the fifth round, Riya Shah was eliminated with 539 votes
  • In the sixth round, Riya Shariyar was eliminated with 667 votes
  • In the seventh round, OLA was eliminated with 1,237 votes

Marija Solic was elected with 1,830 votes in the 8th round


Democracy & Campaigns

For the position of Democracy

& Campaigns Officer, 2,845 students voted for this position and the quota was 1,423. This election went to 1 round.

  • In the first round, No Suitable Candidate (NSC) received 99 votes
  • Anwar Jawula received 871 votes

Maizey Annear was elected with 1,875 votes in the 1st round


Development Officer

For the position of Development Officer, 3,951 students voted for this position and the quota was 1,976. This election went to 6 rounds.

  • In the first round, No Suitable Candidate was eliminated with 38 votes
  • In the second round, M M Hassan was eliminated with 236 votes
  • In the third round, Stephen Dada was eliminated with 545 votes
  • In the fourth round, Harry Magee was eliminated with 918 votes
  • In the fifth round, Vikrant Bhimrao Shinde was eliminated with 1,302 votes

Temidayo Dosunmu was re-elected with 2,180 votes in the 6th round


Learning Experience 

For the position of Learning Experience Officer, 2,665 students voted for this position and the quota was 1,333. This election went to 5 rounds.

  • In the first round, No Suitable Candidate was eliminated with 82 votes
  • In the second round, Hardik Panchal was eliminated with 216 votes
  • In the third round, Joshua Hailey was eliminated with 655 votes
  • In the fourth round, Kajetan Albin was eliminated with 868 votes

Suzie Dunn was elected with 1,850 votes in the 5th round


Welfare

For the position of Welfare Officer, 2,976 students voted for this position and the quota was 1,489. This election went to 7 rounds.

  • In the first round, No Suitable Candidate (NCS) was eliminated with 60 votes
  • In the second round, Jennifer Amarachi Rufus was eliminated with 148 votes
  • In the third round, Muhammad Haroon Azeem was eliminated with 232 votes
  • In the fourth round, Abdur Rab was eliminated with 304 votes
  • In the fifth round, Ishaq Njuki was eliminated with 753 votes
  • In the sixth round, Khay Jegede was eliminated with 927 votes

Ines Brzychcyk was elected with 1,621 votes in the 7th round
