Newsletter 28/09/2023
Welcome to Portsmouth University 2023/24! Short update about our recent events and information about what is coming up in October.

Hello biologists! A big thank you to everyone who joined us for our icebreaker on the 22nd and all those who took the time to talk to us at Freshers Fayre this year! It was great to catch up with returning members and to meet so many new faces. We hope that anyone who popped past the Q and A session for first years found it useful, and that you aren’t feeling too tired after last night’s Barbie-Oppenheimer event at Popworld!
Look out for these events coming up over the next four weeks:
- Our new Discord based Minecraft building contest BioBuilds! (5/10/23)
- The Mycological Meander lead by Events Secretary and very fungi, Josh Goacher (11/10/23)
- Pumpkin Carving Social (20/10/23)
- The annual Halloween Party (1/11/23)
Find more details on these events on our social media accounts and under the events tab on the left.
If you have any suggestions for future events, or feedback from previous socials please do not hesitate to contact us on the society email address (biological@uspu.net) or on our individual emails listed below.
As a final note, we understand that the first few weeks can be a very stressful period for first time and returning students, a reminder that help is not far away if you are finding things difficult or if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe during a society night out. If you have any concerns, either for yourself or for another student, please do get in touch with Tuva (our Welfare Secretary) or any other member of the committee and we’ll do our best to provide whatever support or signposting is needed. Our contact details are as follows:
- Tuva Reboli-Bakken, Welfare Secretary- up2076913@myport.ac.uk
- Grace Heath, President - up2020104@myport.ac.uk
- James Booker, Vice President- up2069848@myport.ac.uk
- Josh Podger, Secretary- up2017679@myport.ac.uk
- Nat Holmes, Treasurer- up2069752@myport.ac.uk
- Josh Goacher, Events Secretary- up2048250@myport.ac.uk
The committee has been very impressed at the amount of interest we have seen from you all so far, and we very much look forward to seeing you all again soon!
-Josh P.
