Dogs.

Glad we have your attention!

As you know by now, whilst staying in student accommodation students are not allowed to have pets of any kind. Even if you move to private accommodation, many landlords prohibit pets, though some may allow smaller animals, but very rarely would you be allowed to have a dog as your favourite flatmate.

Pets can have a huge impact on your mental health. Over the last few years, many students have reported feeling isolated due to lockdown restrictions and a lack of connection with others. Mentalhealth.org states "[T]he companionship that a pet offers is a great way to reduce anxiety and stress," and "[A] pet can be a great source of comfort and motivation. In many ways, pets can help us to live mentally healthier lives."

UPSU has teamed with BorrowMyDoggy to give students the chance to WIN a year's membership to BorrowMyDoggy!

What is BorrowMyDoggy?

BorrowMyDoggy is a nation wide organisation meaning students could use their memberships anywhere in the UK and Ireland. The company is for dog owners and dog lovers, connecting dog owners with trusted local people who would love to look after their dog; making it easy to arrange walks, playtime, overnight stays or holidays. Their aim is to help dog owners when they need it, give dogs more exercise and playtime and to allow people without a dog to spend quality time with one.

Head over to our Instagram @portsmouthsu between 21st Feb and 7th March 2022 to find out how you can get involved!
