At UPSU's Advice Service, we offer confidential, impartial and non-judgemental support on a range of academic and university issues that may affect your experience. Our team of trained advisers are on hand all year round to offer help where it's needed. The independent service works closely with the University of Portsmouth to resolve issues and ensure students are treated fairly.

UPLUG’s First Meeting: A Remarkable Start to Our Linux Journey!

On Wednesday, 13th November 2024, the University of Portsmouth Linux User Group (UPLUG) held its inaugural meeting, and it was a resounding success! Over two and a half hours, from 3 PM to 5:30 PM, attendees were introduced to the group’s vision and had the opportunity to learn from an inspiring lineup of speakers.
Highlights of the Day
- Welcome Address by Laud (UPLUG President)
Laud kicked off the meeting with an engaging welcome address, emphasizing the importance of Linux and its applications in networking, Linux system administration, and cybersecurity. His talk set the tone for UPLUG’s mission to foster learning and collaboration in these critical areas. - OluwaTobi Fajana (Patron)
Tobi energized the group by outlining plans for upcoming events and seminars. He highlighted the exciting journey ahead for members, emphasizing the benefits of joining a community focused on open-source technology and personal development. - Presentation by Simal Mustafa (Content Coordinator)
Simal delivered the day’s main presentation on Linux in Penetration Testing and explored the pathways to cybersecurity certifications. His session provided practical insights and guidance for members looking to deepen their technical expertise. - Encouragement by Vasileios Adamos (Patron)
Vasileios inspired attendees with his discussion on the applications of Linux in networking, shared valuable resources to support the group’s growth, and encouraged everyone to take UPLUG seriously as a platform for learning and collaboration.
A Promising Start
The energy, enthusiasm, and valuable contributions from our speakers made this first meetup an unforgettable experience. The event reaffirmed our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive community where members can grow their skills, share knowledge, and explore the endless possibilities of open-source technology.
