At UPSU's Advice Service, we offer confidential, impartial and non-judgemental support on a range of academic and university issues that may affect your experience. Our team of trained advisers are on hand all year round to offer help where it's needed. The independent service works closely with the University of Portsmouth to resolve issues and ensure students are treated fairly.

Who is an Inclusion Officer?
Hello, my name is Simba and I am your new inclusion officer. This year I will focus on reducing the barriers students face in academics, development opportunities and welfare support. I hope these efforts will help students achieve excellence in all areas of university life. I look forward to working with you all.
Who is Simba?
- 1st year Earth Science student.
- I am interested in developing a strong university culture prioritising excellence in academics, athletics and civic duty.
- I hope to help Portsmouth students achieve national and international acclaim for their efforts in these areas.
- I am a keen debater and public speaker.
- I also like to read and write. My favourite genres are period pieces, biographies and apologetics.
- I like to meet people so expect to have many conversations with me around excellence, culture and inclusivity.
Manifesto Pledges
Pledge 1: Civic University Initiative
- Creating a dedicated portal connecting students with paid project opportunities in Portsmouth
- Establishing partnerships with local organizations seeking diverse student talent
- Implementing a recognition scheme that rewards civic engagement on your transcript
Pledge 2: Cultural Connections Program
- Spearheading the revival of the bar as a cultural hub with international themed events
- Launching a Cultural Calendar with student-led celebrations beyond token observances
- Creating dedicated funding for liberation societies to host cultural showcases
Pledge 3: Survive & Thrive Cost of Living Support
- Establishing "The Pantry"—a dignified food security program for students in need
- Negotiating flexible accommodation payment plans with university housing
- Implementing a "cost of living crisis fund" for students from disadvantaged backgrounds
Pledge 4: Breaking the Attainment Gap
- Developing a cross-cultural mentorship program pairing students across backgrounds
- Advocating for flexible degree pathways with micro-credential options
- Creating project-based learning opportunities for underrepresented students

- Consolidating support services, academic resources, and social opportunities in one platform
- Ensuring multi-language capability and accessibility features
- Providing targeted notifications for events relevant to underrepresented groups

• UPSU's Pantry will be open before Christmas, allowing students to choose 10 food items for £5. This is designed to help with the cost of living.
• The University app project is going ahead but the University is starting with a chatbot. Continue lobbying University for full app.
• Working to ensure students have alcohol-free spaces and events to network and belong.
• Successfully delivered Soulful Celebration and continue working on the EDI event calendar to ensure we can celebrate our diverse student population.
• Carrying out Go Out And Talk (GOAT) events to showcase work to students.
