She/They
Who is an Opportunities Officer?
Hello beautiful people, my name is Fidelia Fidel-Turay and I have the pleasure of being your Opportunities Officer for 2026/27 (suuuper grateful to be here). As an opportunities officer, I have two main focuses; the first is to support students with avenues for personal growth, skill development, and work experience (including entrepreneurial endeavors). This year, I will be working closely with UoP, UPSU, and the Careers & Employability service to bring these opportunities directly to our student community. Additionally, I also focus largely on community initiatives, providing support for sports clubs, societies, student-led initiatives, community spaces, and more. I’m passionate about supporting your cocurricular and extracurricular needs because without those experiences, I wouldn’t be where or who I am today. Come knock on my door if you’re looking for opportunities outside of lecture theatres, labs or seminar rooms.
Who is Fidelia?
- I’m a UoP BSc Computer Science graduate!
- I have been working with the university for over 3.5 years in 6+ different roles (feel free to go stalk my LinkedIn).
- I adore the process of making and drinking matchas, teas, cocktails, and mocktails.
- I’m a massive theatre and fantasy nerd (sprinkle some sci-fi in there too - thank you Wattpad 2013).
- Avatar the Last Airbender is my most recommended source for therapy.
- I'm a creative: I dance, choreograph, and am a creative director.
- I am a mental health, neurodiversity, and human rights advocate; because we're all just stars who shine in our own big little ways.
Manifesto Pledges
Pledge 1: Development & Career Support
To enhance students’ skills and professional readiness, diversify the implementation and promotion of career-building events and workshops to ensure direct access to information. Additionally, advocate for accredited development schemes that can complement or substitute traditional work placements.
Pledge 2: Accesibility
To increase awareness of available support services among students, the initiative includes enhancing outreach through visibility and engagement on campus and online. It proposes the introduction of support services ambassadors to facilitate direct interaction and education about university resources. Additionally, the plan incorporates programs that provide students with access to university and UPSU resources at reduced or no cost, such as society and sport trials and workshop room access.
Pledge 3: Empowerment
Empowering students to design, organize, and execute various projects and events, including fundraisers and exhibits. Encouraging student-led activities supported by UPSU project initiatives, while strengthening connections among diverse student groups and the Student Union through collaborative efforts.
Pledge 4: Community & Welfare
Creating inclusive safe spaces fosters easy discussions through safeguarding, compassion, and open-mindedness. The Buddy Bubble enables students to initiate conversations without fear of rejection, while the Conversation Pit, a weekly event, promotes open dialogue with proposed topics centered on knowledge and experience sharing within a student community.
